Chinese Tea House

Here’s one of our designs that never made it past the drawing board—set aside by its original clients, yet still something we believe would have been incredible to bring to life. This is the TEA HOUSE Pavilion, where Chinese tea ritual is observed as a form of moving meditation, focusing on mindfulness and the present moment. Conceived as an arrangement of vertical timber sections, mirrors, and glass, time slows down through heightened spatial awareness, craftsmanship, and materiality.

Visitors enter through a narrow, slightly mysterious corridor where light shifts and reflects, building anticipation. The repeated timber elements and mirrors make the space feel larger and almost endless. As you walk through, it feels like a gentle transition away from everyday life, leading into a bright central space designed for simple, quiet reflection.

The model of the tea house will be on display at Kopi Manyar, Bintaro, Jakarta, Indonesia, from the 28th of April 2026, alongside others by a selection of amazing Malaysian architects. This exhibition includes talks and is organised by @malaysian_architecture_weeks
