Thrilled to be working on a local community project that involves providing meaningful spaces for social interaction and play, catering to the needs of multi-generational inhabitants living in a low-income housing estate in the city of Kuala Lumpur, specifically PPR Desa Tun Razak. Commissioned by @mythinkcity for the @kita2kita_ program, the proposal includes a series of play structures, covered walkways, and strategically placed seating, steps, and shelters for planned and incidental interactions and engagements. It will be an upgrade from the current dismal facilities with durable, practical, and flexible forms and interventions that provide arenas to enrapture and endure. The aim is to improve the experience of living within the confines of crammed conditions of high-density inner-city housing.
A series of user-centric dialogues and workshops reveals a number of problematic issues with the existing such as disconnectivity, safety, durability, and lack of shade and insufficient formations for rest, play and communal activities. The design attempts to address these issues and we hope that the participatory process will enhance the sense the ownership and pride for the new facilities.
