courtyard house study

In this study, an architectural analysis of a particular house typology – the courtyard terrace – in response to the environmental and social sustainability within the context of tropical Malaysia is discussed in detail, with the aim of clarifying its usefulness on individual buildings and larger settlement patterns. It further presents a study of different possible patterns of the courtyard terrace form within an established plot area. This analysis allows the definition of potential space organization with improved environmental strategies and improved use of space for everyday living.

This study culminates in a paper presented presented at the 24th International Conference on Passive and Low Energy Architecture (PLEA) 22nd to 24th November 2007 Singapore.
